A friend of predatory lender Household International and HSBC Representative Bob Ney, an Ohio Republican entangled in the corruption scandal centered on the former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, announced Monday that he would abandon his bid for re-election. The Justice Department has signaled for months that criminal charges against Mr. Ney, and possibly other Republican members of Congress and aides who were close to Mr. Abramoff, were only a matter of time.

ATLANTA — Saks Fifth Avenue has a new blueprint, and chief executive officer Stephen Sadove is ready to build it. Sadove, presiding over his first shareholders meeting since becoming Saks Inc. CEO in January, said here on Wednesday that the retailer will target a core customer who is 45 to 48 years old, seek to boost the performance of regional stores and renovate existing units, build relationships with key vendors and add new designers and more accessible luxury.

Will HSBC buy Charles Schwab? Former HSBC Chairman William F. Aldinger is on the board of directors at Charles Schwab. As former CEO of predatory lender Household International Aldinger moved to HSBC when HSBC bought Household in 2002. Some analysts think HSBC has an insider at Schwab with Aldinger. Logically none of it makes sense otherwise, as Aldinger tops the list of predatory executives and the notorious list of most sued and settled executives. Some see the autralian Etrade deal as a precursor.

June 1, 2006–The board of directors of Capmark Financial Group Inc. (”Capmark”) today announced the appointment of William F. Aldinger, III as president and chief executive officer of the company, effective immediately. Aldinger, responsible for the most suits, settlements and foreclosures as a financial services industry executive, also has joined the company’s board of directors. Aldinger succeeds Robert D. Feller, who will be leaving the company.

UPDATE: This company ceased operations in September 2007. HSBC closed all HSBC Finance operations including HFC and Beneficial Finance and auto lending in March 2009. HSBC Finance credit card operations continue for now. (update posted April 21, 2009)
