Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) — HSBC Holdings Plc said Chief Executive Officer Stephen Green will become chairman, replacing John Bond. Green will take over as chairman when Bond, 64, retires in May after 45 years at the company, the London-based bank said in a statement today. Michael Geoghegan, head of the U.K. business, replaces Green as CEO. Dyfrig John will succeed Geoghegan.

HSBC Private Bank has hired Peter Carlson to manage the Washington, Boston and upstate New York operations. Carlson joins HSBC USA from Citigroup Private Bank, where he was a director and private banker. Although he’ll be based in New York, Carlson will look to expand the private bank’s operations in the D.C. region, just as the bank is growing its retail presence and embassy business.

HSBC Bank USA has named Thomas M. Neale to oversee efforts to build a commercial banking presence in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Neale will lead HSBC, a unit of one of the world’s largest financial companies, in its push into the lucrative mid-Atlantic market. He comes to HSBC from Wachovia Corp., where he has been commercial banking director for Maryland since 2002. Before that, he worked in corporate finance for Ferris Baker Watts. He began his banking career in 1978 with MNA Financial, and has been in Maryland, Virginia and DC ever since.
HSBC has appointed Darren Friedlander as head of marketing in Australia, responsible for the HSBC brand, marketing communications, market research, sponsorship leveraging as well as customer analytics and CRM.
