retail services business has renewed its alliance with Gardner-White Furniture
to manage the company’s private label credit card program. Gardner-White is a
leading furniture retailer based in metro Detroit. The new agreement extends HSBC Retail Services’ six-year relationship with Gardner-White. Since 1999, the Gardner-White credit card has provided its customers with long-term financing opportunities when purchasing furniture and household accessories.

The telephone number associated with these accounts is 302-478-9056, which is disconnected. While disconnected numbers are nothing new for HSBC Finance Corporation, people ask why this is happening. Our answer, and the foundation of the problem is that HSBC Finance Corporation is the new name of disgraced predatory lender Household International.

Who is to blame and who bears the responsibility if a sales person tells you something that is not true? Take this actual consumer report as an example:
“Tom Wheelis told me in no uncertain terms that my total cost of the purchase was $1591.02 and no payments were due until one year from date of purchase.” This related to an Art Van account destined for collection. At Best Buy, the same applies. The sales person tells the customer “It is no interest and no payments for 12 months” only to find out that by the second month you are headed for collections and a stain on your credit report.

Bon-Ton said Thursday it lost $1.4 million in the three months ended July 30, as compared with a loss of $388,000 in the same period in 2004. Total sales dropped 3.5 percent to $274.3 million. And same-store sales, an important measure of retail performance, declined 3 percent. Bon-Ton officials said the year-over-year comparison was thrown off because the company posted a one-time $27 million sales gain in the spring.
