Employee theory of HSBC layoffs and seniority

Employee theory of HSBC layoffs and seniority

I worked for HSBC for 19 years, most of that time in collections. I was recently fired for a bogus reason. Many of my fellow co-workers with 15-19 years of service for HSBC have also been let go. One individual was fired because they did not delete an email that was “inappropriate” sent to them by someone else 4 years ago. It seems there is a pattern with HSBC letting people go with 15-19 years of service. Many of these employees including myself are grandfathered under the Household Pension Plan. I believe HSBC is doing everything in it’s power to get rid of employees to save on pension costs. Customers — you are not alone. HSBC screws it’s employees in the very same way. If you are an employee who has been fired after 15-19+ years of service, please write your blog. Do I hear class action law suit?

“To the person who worked collections for 15 plus years theory, yes you are not alone. Two people terminated in our district, both late forties to early fifties with several years with the company. Replaced with younger less experienced with explanations that do not make sense to anyone. Class action would be the way to go. You won’t find much seniority with this company outside of management. Guess is, average age of branch staffs around 25 years old. Most newly hired and promoted in early twenties is the trend. Layoffs or cutbacks for long time employees in hopes of resignation or signatures on weak severence packages for any long term employee. A poll of the average age groups would be interesting in a profession whereby the more experience obtained, the better quality of the information given along with better satisfaction of the customer. Goog luck, and several people would agree and join in any class action, not doubt.”
