HSBC Sunday computer crash creates a mess
HSBC Bank USA is still scrambling to recover after its core banking computer system mysteriously crashed Sunday, preventing it from recording withdrawals and deposits, and wreaking havoc on consumers and businesses nationwide. Computer crashes and angry merchants are nothing new for HSBC. I’m sure there is a battle plan in place to put angry customers back in touch with reality, as HSBC remains superior and customers are on a lesser scale. Many transactions were not posted to accounts, leaving customers and bank personnel unsure of exactly how much money anyone had.
Not posted to accounts? There is the answer — as HSBC tried to incorporate the HSBC Finance model of processing timely payments as late payments. That means “not posted to accounts until HSBC makes money from the account” like in late fees, NSF fees, and so on. I think they loaded the wrong software. The predatory software goes on the HSBC Finance computers guys, not the real bank computers.
HSBC said “we are still working through the remaining recovery work.” No data, transactions or money was actually lost. That’s right, it is not lost. Which means HSBC knows exactly where it is, even if it is in a black hole somewhere. Maybe HSBC spent it on lobbying, like the $660,000 they spent in on lobbying in the last three months. Better yet, go back and lobby for immunity if this kind of thing ever happens again.
