HSBC can submit as many press releases about planting trees, green offices, and gifts for credit card holders as they desire. Did HSBC ever think that those cute articles are negated by real news? For example, this article is quite astonishing: “Security-incident prone bank HSBC has admitted losing a server containing transaction data on 159,000 Hong Kong-based account holders.” An entire server? Next time if they want to lose a server they can send one to me.

Didn’t HSBC lose information on 370,000 account holders just a few weeks ago? I think they did. In April, HSBC UK admitted it has misplaced 370,000 customer details, which were mailed a month before on an unencrypted disc. The envelope never arrived at its intended destination. HSBC knows a little about that too. Credit card payments and faxes are sent to HSBC Finance, but workers routinely say they never arrived. Suggestion? Mark the envelope with the sensitive data as “NOT FROM A CUSTOMER” - and perhaps it wouldn’t get lost.

How about that HSBC e-payment system? It hasn’t been working too well either. Facts suggest that HSBC Plc put former Household International employees in charge of all HSBC operations worldwide. That way, if doing something - like their job - didn’t result in putting a few dollars in their own pockets then nothing gets done.
