Isn’ this sweet: The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Ltd in Bangladesh has awarded the winners of the HSBC Wedding Loan Promotion through a small ceremony held in Sylhet recently. We propose a promotion in the United States. It would be called the ‘HSBC Process Your Payment Correctly’ promotion. That would be nice too. The only problem is the audit trail it would leave.

No more processing one’s credit card payment one day after the due date. No more processing of HFC and Beneficial revolving loan payments one day into the next payment cycle. No more statements that arrive on or after the due date. No more telephone payments that still don’t credit for three or four days.

The problem is that everything would return to normal after the promotion ended, returning to the way it is now. HSBC would never be able to explain it. But if you want to move to Bangladesh there are perks, while here in the United States there are regulators and regulations. At least I think there are.

Another thought on the subject is this – if you open a David’s Bridal credit card account it is backed by HSBC. The U.S. version of the wedding promotion goes like this: Charge your wedding dress on an interest free promotion, get a statement after the due date, get a bill all of the interest, and add $39 for a late fee. Yes! That’s the right way to started life as a married woman.

Part two of the HSBC United States wedding loan promotion goes like this: Dispute the charges and they should be removed from your new “joint / married credit report” – which of course they are not. Threaten to sue, but find out you cannot because you have binding arbitration. Meanwhile HSBC reports you and your new husband to the credit bureaus. Watch all of your other credit cards raise their rates to 29 percent! YES – and meanwhile living in Bangladesh looks better all the time.
