Son of HSBC executive extorts own mother, gets prison sentence

A judge in England sent the son of a senior HSBC executive to prison for extorting nearly $4 million from his mother to support his luxurious lifestyle. Rudy Hodson became “very vulnerable” following the death of her husband John Claude Hudson, a senior official with the HSBC investment bank, and fell into the care of Mark and Kim. Judge Julian Lambert told Mark Hodson, “You plundered your mother’s money on a grand scale. You had charge of her affairs when she was frail. Your offending is so serious only a custodial sentence is justified.”

Mark Hodson, 39, received a two-and-a-half year prison term for coercing his mentally ill adoptive mother Ruby Hodson, 77, to fund his lavish lifestyle and for forging her checks. Mark Hodson persuaded Rudy Hodson, who died in May, to finance a $130,000 Porsche 911, a $20,000 hot tub, a $40,000 water-ski boat and a $1.2 million home for Mark and his wife, Kim.
