HSBC Loses Heartland of America

HSBC Loses Heartland of America

HSBC made strong inroads into Viet Nam and is selling Islamic insurance in developing Islamic countries. Meanwhile in the United States HSBC, thanks to HSBC Finance, is making life miserable for Americans. Does this sound like a plot to an anti-western movie? You bet it does. HSBC - in my family alone - tried to negate an interest free purchase through Best Buy on an HSBC-backed credit card, failed to send a statement in the final month of our interest-free period, and rolled over almost $1300 on an HFC loan. Customer service reps were, for the most part, no help at all.

What makes HSBC think activists like Knight Vinke have no valid argument? Not long ago HSBC had big plans to expand across the United States. What makes HSBC think for a moment that we want them? From Viet Nam veterans to those that remember September 11, 2001 - and those touched by HSBC Finance Corporation - very few can trust HSBC at this point. It is safe to say that HSBC lost the heartland of America. Let me cite an example.

My wife mailed all of our mortgage payments on Thursday of last week. We have a few rental properties, so eight payments were mailed. All of the payments processed in a timely manner. Each company has a website, so we logged on and double checked. All payments were credited correctly. We sent a little extra, and all of that was correctly applied to the principle.

Contrast that with HSBC, where a person mails a payment two weeks early and it is credited one day late. Contrast it with HSBC web sites where you cannot log on. Add in stupid rules for those who declared bankruptcy so they cannot have online access, and factor in HFC loans where payments are quoted on 30 years but the loan is due in 10 or 11 years. I contend that HSBC lost the hearland of America because they cannot be trusted. Fat, dumb, and happy in London HSBC, executives still do not recognize that their good name and character are being destroyed by HSBC Finance. And the kicker is that HSBC Finance is, and was, high interest predatory lender Household International.

  2. […] When HSBC took loan losses that near or exceed what they paid for Household International it only makes sense to keep the credit card operation and reduce or eliminate the mortgage operation. Expect HSBC to start closing HFC and Beneficial offices by the end of October. Expect closings to continue until many more people are unemployed. And expect smiles in London as HSBC looks to make shareholders, including Kinight Vinke, very happy. In an earlier article we wrote about how HSBC lost the heartland of America. Expect HSBC to crush the hearts of employees just before the holiday season, giving pink slips instead of paychecks as it turns cold.    Thinking of making a debt settlement offer?
