HSBC has a list of almost 30,000 Farepak customers who could be eligible to claim back millions of pounds lost in the company’s failure, but is barred from alerting them under data protection laws.
Anyone who paid Farepak through Visa or MasterCard is entitled to claim back their money under the chargeback scheme, which repays customers who do not receive their goods.
HSBC processed all card payments made to Farepak and is liable to foot the bill under the chargeback scheme. It is understood up to 30,000 people made payments to Farepak by credit or charge card, but so far, only about 3,000 have made a claim.
HSBC would not comment on numbers, but confirmed it had a list of eligible Farepak customers.
