“About the HSBC Center for Consumer Advocacy: HSBC’s financial education grant program is managed by the Center for Consumer Advocacy, established in 2003 to manage the company’s financial education and housing programs and community outreach initiatives. The center also awards grants to educational institutions and maintains the personal financial education web site YourMoneyCounts.com”
The real truth: This is part of HSBC Finance Corporation, not the real HSBC. By that we mean HSBC Finance was once Household International. Part of the reason the program was established in 2003 was because Household International and HSBC settled the largest predatory lending lawsuit in the U.S., thus changes were mandated. Did you see anything of this type from HSBC from 1994-2003? Absolutely not! Real consumer advocates examined the referenced web site. Real consumer advocates also examined HSBC Finance Corporation’s track record. The final assessment reveals this to be somwhere between a scam and a joke. Look at the members behind the ‘Center for Consumer Advocacy’ and you see self serving purposes, one of which is not to look out for you.
