Household - HSBC Watch has learned of layoffs within Metris now that HSBC owns the company. Jacksonville Florida and White Marsh Maryland locations of Metris have seen layoffs. In addition, the Metris skip tracing and debt waiver department received notice that their last day will be May 12th. Look for other reductions in Scottsdale Arizona. Not clear at this time is whether these jobs will be absorbed by HSBC employees in the United States or if the jobs are already in India.

HSBC Finance reveals little about internal operations as complaints continue nationwide. HSBC plans to export their “Household Model” to at least four countries. Consumer advocates claim HSBC is exporting predatory lending.

Metris is known for the Direct Merchants Bank Card and DIRECT MERCHANTS CREDIT CARD BANK, N.A.
of Scottsdale Arizona. Comparing Metris with HSBC Finance, formerly known as Household International, there were over 5000 Better Business Bureau complaints about HSBC Finance in the past 36 months, while only 238 were filed concerning Metris - Direct Merchants. All job losses are important to individual employees but a strong case can be made for Metris teaching HSBC how to conduct operations in a more professional manner. Perhaps Metris employees should stay and former Household International employees should be terminated.

HSBC will not expose Metris employees to the inner workings of predatory credit card operations. To do so would expose people with concience and integrity to the “Household Model”. HSBC cannot afford the risk. Since 1994 Household International and HSBC confounded federal and state regulators. Petitioning to seal court records of Melissa Rutland Drury, touched by Shea v Household, and stung by racketeering charges with H&R Block HSBC Finance Corporation can ill afford those who know the real truth.

  1. Research says:

HSBC Finance Corp. will close its south Orlando call center by October, eliminating nearly 300 jobs, the credit-card company acknowledged Tuesday.

HSBC, based in suburban Chicago, will also close similar telephone-service operations in Duluth, Minn., and Scottsdale, Ariz., as part of a cost-cutting consolidation of company operations, officials said.

All three centers are part of Minnesota-based Metris Cos., a credit-card company acquired by HSBC Finance late last year for $1.6 billion.

The Orlando call center employed nearly 400 people at its peak three years ago, as Metris’ main telemarketing arm for the Hispanic market. Metris had acquired the operation from Banco Popular, the Puerto Rico-based bank, in mid-2000.

HSBC said it plans to reassign the work now done in Orlando to other HSBC operations. Spokesman Stephen Cohen called it a “a difficult decision” to close the Orlando facility, which in recent years had focused on customer service and bill collection. But the streamlining is expected to generate significant savings.
