Rooms to Go Acquires HSBC Merchant Rhodes Furniture
Rooms To Go will buy Atlanta-based Rhodes Furniture for about $48.8 million. The 126-year-old Rhodes Furniture voluntarily filed for protection under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code on Nov. 4, listing total liabilities of $19 million. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Sefner-based Rooms To Go won a court-ordered auction for the stores. The Rhodes chain consists of 65 stores.
Consumer advocates at Household - HSBC Watch said the Rhodes credit card was serviced by former predatory lender Household International Retail Services, now part of HSBC plc. Efforts to access information at Rooms to Go was unsuccessful. Customers report that Rooms to Go uses another predator, CitiFinancial, for their credit card. See all reports here.
