HSBC Lags Behind Egg in UK
News from London on July 5 shows HSBC lagging behind for the second time this week according to Household - HSBC Watch. Egg has provided the cheapest standard variable rate mortgage for the third year in a row but leading mortgage brokers told Reuters on Friday that borrowers could do better without losing out on stability.
Financial data provider Moneyfacts compared the interest charged by providers of standard variable rate (SVR) mortgages to find out whose mortgage was cheapest between July 2004 and June 2005. Egg topped the table for the third consecutive year, followed by HSBC and First Direct.
