Andrew Armishaw, group executive and chief information officer at HSBC has some explaining to do. Consumers have reported in recent weeks that HSBC’s online payment website, www.hrsaccount.com , will not let customers pay their accounts online. The number of complaints about the online payment website rose to an all time high in recent weeks. Consumer watchdog organization Household - HSBC Watch said www.hrsaccount.com supports accounts for predatory lender Household International, now called HSBC Finance Corporation. See a letter to the FBI and regulators.

The company makes millions of dollars every day when hrsaccount.com is not operational, through late fees, interest, and $15 fees for payments by telephone. “We think it is another blatant attempt to increase revenue at the expenses of the consumer” said Household - HSBC Watch. “If they lock you out of the online payment website, do they report you as late to the credit reporting agencies? And remember, part of what you are charged goes back to the original merchant as profit for them. You can’t pay at the store in most cases. This may have implications of racketeering” said the organization. You can see more about this subject in our forums.

I do agree with you all, retail services won’t budge or reconsider their errors and communications. I had to pay over the phone and was charged a fee, I got the statement late and at the same time I could not go online to make my payment, false advertising and forwarding customers a peace of mind when there is none. There for today I decided to pay off my account in full and never to deal with them again. My advise, when you finance make sure and ask if it is not through household hrsa or retail services. When you see this don’t sign anything anymore. As far as this goes they have lost my business forever and I look forward for a class action suit in the future.

  3. mary says:

i have a 6 mos no interest and cannot pay on line. i will pay the $15 phone fee and ask for a refund of that charge- doubt if i’ll get it but at least i won’t deal with 6 mos worth of interest charges…. i will never do business with these morons again!

  4. Buddy H says:

These people need to be stopped! I am a disabled vet and also a sole parent of 4 kids and as most of us we don’t have the money to play with. Even beyond their BS it’s almost impossible to pay off. So far I have giving them $280.00 and only have paid off $26.46. Original balance being $1.200.Minimum payment $19 and all I can pay monthly is $50 max.

  5. steve says:

This is a bunch of BS. I spoke with a representative a week ago and she said I can pay this online. Here I’m trying to pay this bill and I can’t get logged in. I know if I called them they would charge me $15. This is how they rip you off. What can we do? I can’t afford to pay it off.

  6. lynn says:

I have had a problem with every aspect of service mentioned in all of the other complaints. I had to fight to keep the low interest rate that was contracted between the company and myself.I have spoke to several representatives with no recourse of action taken. The bottom line is the company only cares about getting as much of the “o mighty dollar” as possible. I wonder if the company realizes that greed is one of the seven deadly sins!

  7. Lisa Fleming says:

I was going to start paying online because they “claim” they received my payment after it was due. The statement showed the payment was received on the “due date” but I was charged the $35 “late fee.” I guess they must have it days BEFORE the due date. I have 2 accounts with them and after reading these comments I will NEVER open another account with them.

  8. Janie Bright says:

When HSBC offered there customers online payment bill payment that made my life so much easier. I was only able to take advantage of this service one time. I was denied access the second time i tried to pay my bill. I have been a customer of HSBC for many years and i am so displeased with their customer service. I will never do business again with them.

  9. Theresa says:

I have my mortgage with HSBC and I pay them through my bank online. Online banking eliminates the need to log into different accounts. I have not had a problem this way.

  11. Mary Wolford says:

I’m also having problems with my payments. My payments are due on the 27th of each month (yes, I have two accounts) and I send the payment by mail on the 15th of each month, because I don’t receive the statement until the 11th.
The payments were posted on the 29th giving me a late fee of 35.00 for each account. Their excuse is that have no control over the postal system.
I was going to try to go on line to set up account but with all that you have said I’m afraid to do so.
Has anyone tried to contact the Better Business Bureau? How about the attorney general of the state, which in my case is Califorina?
    Let me know.

  12. I have been able to pay my Retail Services bill before on-line @ http://www.hrsaccount.com but, but have been unsuccessful recently and have tried many times! I don’t have this problem with DiscoverCard, Chase,or any other bills I pay on-line. I agree that all they are after is the late fee!

  13. dan says:

I have just found out how this company rips their customers off by the fake web site.

  14. Teri says:

I totally agree with the prior comments regarding this company’s business practices. I always receive my bill in the mail either on their recommended mail date or a little after. If they recommend the bill be mailed by 01/18/06, thats hard to do if you don’t get it until 01/19/06. I have tried to pay my bill on line, but for the last 2 months I have not been able to find their website. Also, is everyone else totally tired of the constant harassing phone calls at all hours? When you advise the caller that you prefer to pay online, they tell you that they are putting on collections, and the web site will reject your payment, charge you a $25 fee and also a $35 late fee, and if I will make a payment on the phone it will only be a $15 fee.

My husband says this $15 fee must go directly in the phone reps pocket as a comission or something of that sort as they push this method. Has the better business bureau or any other government agency looked into this company’s practices yet?????

  15. Bruce Welch says:

MY BILL ARRIVED TODAY 020206 WHICH SHOULD HAVE ARRIVED BE FORE THE 15TH OF JAN 06. WE WOULD NORMALLY PAY BY THE DUE DATE IN JAN. 26,06.
WHEN I CALLED THEM TO TELL THEM, THEY ONLY GAVE ME TWO DAYS TO PAY BY INTERNET, WHICH I CAN NOT DO, WITH A CHARGE OF FIFTEEN DOLLARS PLUS A THIRTY-NINE DOLLAR LATE CHARGE. i CAN NOT PAY THIS BILL AT ANY LOCAL STORE.
AM i BEING RIPPED OFF BY A MIDDLE-EAST ORGANIZATION WHICH I JUST HEARD ABOUT? WHO WOULD KNOW ABOUT A SECURITY RISK?

  16. Jodie Gray says:

BOSE-BOSE-BOSE-BOSEI recently purchased a BOSE wave radio through what I thought was BOSE interest free financing program. I have attempted to pay my bill online and found I have been denied access to the website. Trying to get through to these people by phone is an act of GOD!!! I will pay my bill in full along with the $15 phone payment fee and will NEVER be suckered by this scam again! You would think that the producers of ” worlds most innovative sound systems” would be able to create a simple and reliable website! I think the interest free offer from BOSE is a BIG SCAM so they can rip your *** off!

  17. Deborah J Hall says:

I have to agree $15.00 is a little to much to pay over the phone. Plus the statements are usely late or they don’t come at all. Pleae help the consumer from this company ripping us.

  18. Mark Soave says:

Just finished reading these comments after I could not access hrsaccount.com. Did some deep digging and if you go to http://www.hrsaccount.com and scroll down to Sam Ash-1-800-4-samash.Click on and scroll down - you will find link (in small print) http://www.hrsaccount.com/retailservices. I was able to access site and paid my account in full. I’m not taking a chance with these fools trying to rip me off. I will never do business with anybody who uses them as their financing partner. Good luck!!

  19. Cindy says:

I have sent all of my payments by mail via ‘return receipt requested’ (which is about $1.90 extra) and they have posted ALL my payments in a very timely manner. I have had absolutely no problems with my HRS account.

  20. robert vcaudill says:

I have been trying to make a payment for 3 weeks tonight I thank I made a payment by phone. I sent a payment in by mail 3 weeks ago and I got a 29.00 late fee yesterday. They did not get THE PAYMENT. I canceled my best buy credit card because I have never had credit problems this bad in my life. I BOUGHT A 42 PLASMA AND HOME SUROUND AT REX THIS MONTH WITH NO TROUBLE.

  21. Josh says:

I bought some furnature on 12 month no payment /interest plan. I thought it was through the store, and was surprised to find out thes credit line is through these guys. I wanted to pay off the balance today, and was pretty told the same as everyone else. I could pay over the phone, and it would cost $15, or go to their website. Tried to get to the website, and the server is down. After reading all these comments i going to pay the $15, and be thankfull that’s all I lost. They’ll never get my business again.

  22. robert wickliff says:

we had cancelled one payment that was setup online , they was calling us thought it was promotion **** ignored them not once did they say our payments was late of course not that way they jacked interest rate up i have excellant credit but would not suggest dealing with them it was hrs that quit taking payments out not us but would not change the fact it was their fault now we are paying 21 % verus the 3.4 % that was the original ALL THAT INTEREST FOR ONE PAYMENT SO WATCH OUT YOU WILL GET STUCK

  23. patricia kuron says:

I am tired of getting this notice of paying montgomery wards. This was paid 14 years ago through ameriquest morgage co. I refianced my house and it was paid otherwise they wouldn’t have given me the loan. Also it was only $4ooo.oo not $7305.43. i don’t know where you came up with that amount. i will try and find the paper on it. you can check with them if they have record of it. it was back in 1993 or 1994. thank you

  24. Marcia Fox says:

I have been trying to make a payment on-ine for a week and they won’t let me on. They say that my e-mail is not valid but I have made payments to them in the past. This is just a scam to charge a late fee. I will never make another purchase at compusa after the way I have been treated this timel.

  25. Ned J. Grace says:

My wife and I have been trying to make our payment online with no luck whatsoever! I can’t figure out for the life of me why any company would offer h.r.s. for financing to anyone. Its a crime that they can make it impossible to make our payment online on time! tHIS IS BEING TURNED IN TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF UTAH! THIS COMPANY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!! NED AND CHERRY GRACE…

  26. Renee DelPrince says:

I have been with HRSA for approximately 3 months and each of the two times I have gone on line to make a payment access has been denied. I am convinced affer logging a complaint with the rude operators, (i.e. operator X44 in particular) that this on line payment system is a scam to get more money. However, the scam did not start at that point, HRSA has been scamming in my opinion since day one with misc., charges such as Debt Cacellation fees, etc…These fees were never requested during the initial purchase stage and just appeared on my statement to the tune of $37.14 more per month. After several complaints to the store I received only one credit of $37.14, but I have made three payments thus far. Someone needs to look into the on line services as well as HRSA in general. This is just bad business no matter how you look at it. Go get em Ned and Cherry Grace!

  27. debbie says:

I agree with the above persons opinion about this company. I have been paying for a water softner financed through retail services for a while now and the total does not seem to drop. My credit has suffered due to it being listed as a revolving account. Every time I run a credit report or try to get a loan due to the past fees of this account, my request for a new loan or refinance is declined. I cannot wait to get this paid completely for I will never use this company again. They have definitely lost my future business.

  28. Denise says:

My APR is 29.99%. I just paid full balance of $1600 and get a new bill with finance charges and a late fee on top of that. I called to waive and they said absolutely not, they can not. Neverending.

  29. Vicky says:

It’s amazing how many of you complain when you should be taking an active role in your accounts. I know it may seem like a lot to ask with you overly busy lives but just tracking when your statement will come in and raising an alert when it doesn’t would benefit you greatly. As well just reading the darn thing explains a lot and if your not sure call customer service. They are willing to explain everything to you so you don’t mess up your account. Credit card companies are tying to make money off you, so it your job to watch your accounts like a hawk so it doesn’t happen.

  30. jesse taylor says:

i could’t get on to hrsaccount.com to pay my bill and when I call i was told it would be a $15.00 charge to pay my account. this is robbery without a gun

  31. Jennifer says:

I know that my bill is due on the 18th of every month, but I like to pay my bills online at the first of every month. I cannot do this with my HRS account because their website is not up. Customer service tells me that it is either my internet provider’s problem, I am not typing the correct address in the address box, or I am typing it into a search engine instead of the address box. This is a bunch of ****! I get my bill in on time because I know how to keep up with it, but they are out-right lying to us! Who is to say that we won’t be lied to about something else. As to Vicky’s response, I know how to keep up with my account, but I can’t argue with these people. I am one person. They just tell me I am wrong and “Sorry mam, there is nothing we can do that is just what our computer says.” Also, costumer service was EXTREMLY rude to me when I called. I told them about all these websites that have these horror stories and they told me that all these people are simply not typing in the address the correct way. Yeah right! We have had our account with them for only about 4 months, and something goes wrong at least once a month. It’s just a headache to have to constantly worry about it and then have to fix it.

  32. Judy says:

We are having trouble getting them to send us our first statement. Had to get the dealer to call to get the due date and it is a week before due date - no statement. I think they are a scam and want customers to be late to make extra fees.

  34. [...] How To Never Get Ripped Off When Getting A Mortgage. Description If You, Or Someone You Know Is Getting Ready To Purchase A First Home, Move Up, Or Refinance, Pay Close Attention To What You Can Learn From A Former Mortgage Banker. Excerpt from product page "Who Else Was Ripped-Off  When They Bought Or Refinanced Their Home?" If you feel you were "taken advantage of" when you applied for and received your home mortgage…you probably were. If you feel you could have done a better job getting your home mortgage… you're probably right. If you, or someone you know is getting ready to purchase a first home, move up, or refinance, you better pay close attention to what I'm going to share with you. It's no secret how many Americans are losing or are about to lose their precious piece of the "American Dream." They're about to be homeless because of the "smoke and mirror" tactics shrouding the mortgage industry. I'm going to blow the lid CLEAN OFF these nasty deep pockets of profit, make tons of enemies in the industry and protect you in the process. The strategy of lenders is to maintain an uneven playing field with their clients. The average person only gets a mortgage every seven years. How can you become good at something you do every seven years, especially if you're dealing with somebody who knows all the ins and outs and is doing this several times a day? My name is Louie Frias. You don't know me yet, but after reading this exposé on the mortgage industry's "dirty little secrets", you're going to be glad you do. I've made an insane living for over twenty-five years as a mortgage banker and broker. If there was a way to make a mortgage fly, I either knew about it or created it and today I'm going to share three of these "dirty little secrets" with you. To understand how our society got here today, (mortgagewise anyway) we need to go back a few years. In the early-mid 1980's, this country was in a recession and interest rates approached 20%! That's right - 20%! Ghastly rates like these created a new era of financing - seller or "creative financing". Money was so tight, we also engineered the 3rd Trust Deed! Can you imagine THREE deeds on your home! This stuff was so crazy nearly every homeowner in the country was one missed paycheck away from bankruptcy and foreclosure. These financing nightmares were necessary in order to move money through the economy to keep us from sinking into a lurking depression.. As a conduit to the money, it was my job to get as much of it out there as fast as humanly possible. Every transaction brought me huge profits because of my creative financing techniques nobody else knew about. Eventually the recession disappeared and the cost of money slid downward. This was great news for every homeowner in every state. Lower rates meant they could refinance and save their home. Guess what? It was also GREAT news for me! Instant mortgage loan pipeline! The volume was tremendous and we were scraping HUGE profits off the closing tables.  If you were smart, you treated every borrower as a friend or relative because they would shower you with referral business. If you were greedy, you bought yourself nothing but trouble. (Remember, this is a highly regulated industry of uneducated, unscrupulous, selfish profiteers.) Need proof? Don't take my word for it… September, 2007 HUD to Warn FHA Lenders on Excessive Fees: The Department of Housing and Urban Development is preparing to issue an "alert" soon that warns Federal Housing Administration lenders about paying "excessive" fees to non-FHA-approved mortgage brokers. "We are concerned [that] consumers are being charged excessive fees," a HUD spokesman said. He said HUD is planning to warn FHA lenders soon that these fees could be "duplicative." While non-approved brokers can refer clients to FHA lenders, they are not allowed to take FHA applications or originate FHA loans. Nevertheless, FHA lenders are soliciting non-approved brokers to bring them customers and loans to process. HUD investigators have found that some lenders are charging borrowers points and paying $4,000 to $5,000 to the brokers. The National Association of Mortgage Brokers said it condemns this practice, which circumvents the FHA's approval process for originators. "This loophole needs to be closed as part of FHA reform" legislation, NAMB president George Hanzimanolis said. Where do you think those fees are coming from? (Secret No. 1) Need more? Read on… September, 2007 NAMB Seeks Compromise on YSPs The National Association of Mortgage Brokers is hoping to find some middle ground with House Democrats on a provision in a newly introduced predatory-lending bill that would ban "incentive" payments to originators, including yield-spread premiums that are a broker's main source of compensation. "I understand their intent is aimed at incentive payments," NAMB executive vice president Roy DeLoach said, where a securitizer pays an additional premium for certain types of loans. The NAMB agrees that incentive payments should be banned. "We want to clarify that an origination fee can be paid by the lender to the brokers," Mr. DeLoach said. Otherwise, the mortgage brokers will be forced to oppose the bill introduced on Oct. 22 by Reps. Barney Frank, D-Mass., Brad Miller, D-N.C., and Mel Watt, D-N.C. "The indirect compensation mortgage brokers receive from lenders is a defendable fee that actually lowers closing costs to consumers," NAMB president George Hanzimanolis said. (There's Secret No. 2) I think by now you've got to agree that it's open season on the unsuspecting consumer. If you're not a loan officer, or someone that understands the secrets of  how mortgages work, that's YOU! (That Was Secret No. 3) Never before in the history of this country has money been so cheap and repossessed homes and personal bankruptcies been so high. So, who's making all the money and how? In a word…"Servicers" The nations largest servicer of mortgages charges up to 1/2% of their loans held per year. As of June 2007, this servicer managed $1.415 BILLION. Do the math. Their ONLY goal is to throw as much money on the street as possible. They don't care how it comes back because that's "…not their problem." That's where mortgage bankers and brokers come in. Mortgage companies hire loan officers to produce mortgages to sell to the servicers for sizeable "back end" commissions. If you are in the middle of a mortgage transaction or know someone who is… STOP! Don't make a mistake and become another statistic in a time when foreclosures are at an ALL TIME HIGH! Home prices will be leveling off soon and you'll want to be positioned to take advantage of that. To be prepared, you need to get educated. I'm going to pull back the curtain and show you secrets loan officers don't want you to know in a FREE, three-day report. It's only part of an exclusive manual I created called "How To Never Get Ripped Off When Getting A Mortgage". For anyone wanting to learn a new career, it's also known as, "How To Become A Successful Mortgage Loan Officer". Here's a sample of what's in the complete manual… How much do loan officers make? Where do they find loans to fund? What is a FICO score? What is a "YSP?" How does it affect the interest rate? Who can be prosecuted for violating section 32? I think I was ripped-off, who do I contact? How do I get the best loan? And much more… If you're thinking you need this information, you're right. Sign Up NOW! You Get Instant Access.
