HSBC Bank – the UK arm of the banking giant – will have a new chairman at the end of this year when Stephen Green succeeds Sir John Bond. Mr Green is currently chief executive of parent company HSBC Holdings and Sir John will retain his role as group chairman of that company.

Legal experts remind consumers that US law allows judges to triple the damage awards in RICO (racketeering, influence and corruption) cases. Currently Household International, a predatory subsidiary of HSBC, is charged under RICO in two cases. One is Beneficial Finance and H&R Block, and the other is a Tennessee case. Some analysts think Shea v Household could result in RICO suits as well.

HSBC Finance Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of HSBC and once known as predatory lender Household International, must certify financial reports under Sarbanes – Oxley in the United States. Of particular interest will be earnings from private label credit cards. Household was charged with crediting payments late to collect illegal interest, late fees and past due fees.
