HSBC claims that it does not make political campaign contributions. (The claim is made, among other places, in HSBC’s “corporate responsibility” statement). HSBC’s statement is misleading. As reported by Crain’s Chicago Business of November 8, 2004: “At Prospect Heights-based HSBC North America Holdings Inc. (formerly Household International Inc.), PAC contributions have almost doubled since 2000 to nearly $1.5 million.
Household’s intranet site contains links to “your legislators”, “your issues”, and issues facing HSBC. Such issues include bankruptcy reform, federal control over state and local anti-predatory lending laws, Class action and tort reform, and postal service reform.
For further information regarding any of these issues you may contact Household’s government relations department at (202)466-3561.
