Fact Act Creates Problems for HSBC North America
Millions of Americans are finding credit reporting errors filed by Household International as the new FACT act goes into effect. Covering up problems at Household Finance (HFC) and improper late application of payments (Retail Services) has the credit bureaus working overtime. The Fair Credit Reporting Act protects the consumer.
Monitoring and periodically reviewing your credit report is an effective tool in fighting identity theft. A new federal law, entitled the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, went into effect in December 2004, enabling millions of Americans to get a snapshot of their credit history for free. The FACT Act grants consumers one free credit report a year from each of the big three credit reporting bureaus — Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
