HSBC’s operations in Iran

The HSBC Group is represented in Iran by HSBC Bank
Middle East, which opened a representative office in
Tehran on 1 September 1999.

The Group has had a long
involvement with Iran going back to the late 1800s. More
recently the Iranian operations of The British Bank of the
Middle East, the former name of HSBC Bank Middle
East, were nationalised shortly after the Iranian
revolution in 1979.
