“NEW YORK, March 30, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) — The law firms of Kirby
McInerney & Squire, LLP and Levy Angstreich Finney Baldante,
Rubenstein & Coren, P.C. announce that the U.S. District Court for the
Northern District of Illinois has issued an opinion, entered March 30,
2004, sustaining federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt
Organizations Act (”RICO”) claims on behalf of a certified nationwide
plaintiff class against H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE:HRB) and Household
International, Inc. (successor to Beneficial Corporation), a
subsidiary of HSBC Holdings PLC (NYSE:HBC). The opinion dismissed
certain other claims. Plaintiff alleges that defendants, among other
things, deceived customers seeking tax refunds into obtaining high
interest loans.”

HSBC routes calls to Philippines

HSBC is to hire 500 people in the Philippines

UK banking giant HSBC is to set up a call centre in the Philippines to handle customer service and backroom operations, company officials say.
The bank will initially hire 500 people for the operation, to be based on the outskirts of Manila.

Why is predatory lender HSBC looking at college students and UMUC?

Having saturated the working adult population with credit card offers, credit card companies are now banking on a new market: college students. Under regular credit criteria, many students would not be able to get a card because they have no credit history and little or no income. But the market for young people is valuable, as industry research shows that young consumers remain loyal to their first cards as they get older.
