I'm interested in founding out how the victims of Household/Beneficial's predatory lending are doing. We were able to be part of the $484 million dollars settlement. What we receive was not much compared to the damage that Household/Beneficial had already done. If you took part in the settlement, and you think that the settlement was not fair, PLEASE WRITE! I like to read your opinions.

I cannot imagine that those who took the $500-$1500 settlement money felt even the least bit of satisfaction. What a joke! I personally wrote to my state's attorney general and told him how ludicrous the whole settlement issue turned out to be. I chided him and the other AGs for destroying an excellent opportunity to put this company out of business once and for all.

Class action suits are not the way to go if you want any decent redress. I'll never forget the big deal made by the media about the "record" settlement amount, trying to make it seem like a big deal. Broken down, it barely would pay for one month's mortgage payment or rent (if you lost your house in a foreclosure).

The weak reply of "we did the best we could" was laughable. Worst of all, these wonderful folks who are supposed to protect we consumers actually believe that wondrous changes in Household's lending policies have been made. Just a cursory glance at the latest posts on this website, written way past the settlement was done, shows that almost nothing has changed and it's business as usual by the good folks at Household.

My family and I were able to take part of the $484 million dollars settlement in 2003, but still the settlement did not change Household/Beneficial deceptive lending practices. They have hurt more families by stripping them of one of the things that we can take pride in--OUR HOUSE! We lost the fight against Beneficial. We are still blessed, because thanks to God we have found another nice place to live. I just worry about those who lost their home after financing with Benecial and were not able to find a nice place to live. In some cases in up homeless! God is still in charge! When you do bad things to good people, what you do can come back to you. Household International is in trouble. The company's sins are heavy! The company will fall! Household Watch, thank you for everything that you do. United we stand and will take Household down. I'm thankful for the nice place I have, but mentally can't get over the stress and depression the company had put us through. We don't have to deal with them anymore, but they still caused a lot of damage. Right now we have sign up for counseling. This is a program for victims of predatory lending. They help you get back on your feet. Predatory lenders can cause not only personal damages but financial damages as well! We plan on buying another home. This time we are going to be more careful! We had a mortgage with a bank before refinancing with Beneficial. This time we are going to let a lawyer look over our mortgage contract before signing anything. The counselors help you with finding the right bank and the mortgage for you. Please check in your state to find out more about programs for predatory lending victims. Check with your Dept of Financial Institutions in your state. It is best to ask them or your Governor or the Attorney General. Beware some programs out there, THEY CAN TRY TO RIP YOU OFF TOO! I would like to do a survey, if you financed with Household or Beneficial and you lost your home, Please write. Maybe all of us can complain at one time and send it to Washington. Please write your opinion!

My thoughts go out to all you people who took a beaten from Household-Beneficial. I am also one that took one *beep* of a beaten from them low life Bastards. My family and I lost our home. We had to move out last month.
Now we received a court sommons. They are wanting us to pay interest from the time we filed for Bankruptcy until this is settled, Wanting us to put insurance on the house, maintain Maintnance on the home, pay for security for the house, pay court cost and pay fees for the sale! I will tell you one thing, I will quit my job I've been on for 18 years before I pay those F***ER's another dime. They have done robbed my wallet, my dignity, hard work, and My mind. Do yall notice how alot of people don't know what they've done to us? I think everyone should know. I wish we could beat em at their own game and do a RALLY. Right in their own parking lot. I know it may sound kinda stupid but I have thought about it.
I am willing to travel. Mabey....Just mabey, people would listen to us and BOYCOT THEM!

Barbara, thanks so much for writing about your experience with Household/Beneficial. I am so sorry and touched by what has happen to you and your family. They are nothing but CROOKS! I don't think government official understand the terrible impact that predatory lending can have on a family. Something needs to be done about Household International or HSBC. Barbara, I don't think your idea is stupid at all! Somehow we have got to be seen and heard! Household Watch, do you have any ideas? Thanks again Household Watch! Your website is great! It helps us to know that we are not alone.
