Topic Title: Ohio AG sues Best Buy

Ohio is suing Best Buy Company Inc., claiming it engaged in "unfair and deceptive acts" stemming from customers' complaints about the retailer, state Attorney General Jim Petro said Thursday.

Petro said he received hundreds of complaints against the Richfield, Minn.-based electronics and appliance store chain.

Representatives for Best Buy declined to comment on the lawsuit Thursday afternoon.

Customers alleged Best Buy repackaged used goods and sold them as new, and failed to honor rebates, refund and exchange programs, and extended service contracts. Customers also accused the company of failing to honor implied warranties, providing substandard customer service and making misleading statements

Linksys receives lots of complaints from customers who purchased there units from Best Buy. Sometimes they receive different models, rocks, hard drives, and nothing in the box at all.

The New Jersey AG sued Best Buy claiming many of the same issues. Here at Household Watch our analysts want to determine how many states will take action of a similar nature.

Accordingly, we look for a nationwide suit similar to the Household $484 million settlement. Best Buy uses the same tactics nationwide. Any nationwide settlement, however, should be much larger than $484 million (US dollars.)

A RICO suit involving Best Buy and Household might be pending if these states turn up enough evidence to suggest that Best Buy brings customers in the door and Household billed them a day late during the period covered by Shea v Household. Best Buy received the ongoing compensation and Best Buy knew that compensation was higher than statistical analysis might reflect.

Any nationwide lawsuit should be more than $484 million dollars. It has even being stated that some victims that took part in the settlement only receive $12.00! Some people even lost their homes in a foreclosure. ACORN is still trying to help victims of Household/Beneficial predatory lending. We were part of the settlement and it did not do us justice compared to the damage that Beneficial had done. I'm sure their are others who feel the same way. If you are one who felt the settlement should have been better, please write.

My husband wanted to purchase an item at Best-Buys. They only had one left and it was on display. It had been sitting out for awhile which I sure people had been fooling with it. They still wanted to charge him full price for an item that had been on display! Are they crazy or what?

I don't think our state officials are taking Household International's fraud complaints serious enough! Sometimes I think if you are a billion dollar business, law enforcements turn the other way as long as if the business is giving money to the state, the politicians, and etc. Which is not right. If you have been a victim of their deceptive business practices, you could careless if they gave to a college fund. They do these things to try to cover up what terrible things they have already done. We are the ones that have to suffer for awhile before the state officials even notice. We have got to stick together and let people know what's going on with Beneficial, Best Buys, Household Bank, Household Finance.

Household International make up accuses for every complaint they have. They have never admitted to doing any deceptive business practices.
