Topic Title: HSBC's "call 302-327-2219" scam
- Account opened in September when my wife and I purchased washer and dryer at best buy in Sandy, UT. Limit of ~$1800.00
- Never received best buy cards. First statement was never received.
- Charges for almost 3000 in merchandise and debt cancellation service showed up on my statements in January.
- Called phone number on bill and disputed above charges. I was told somoene called in on 7 Jan verified as me and requested limit increase to ~$6000.00 which was granted. I placed all charges including debt cancellation service fees under dispute.
- Received letter stating purchases verified and dispute failed.
- Filed police reports with Salt Lake County Sheriff, Murry city police(store where one purchase was made), and South Salt Lake police, and am working with division of consumer protection in Utah.
- Called HSBC again and explained what I was doing. I was informed that debt cancellation fees were never disputed and is handled by a different department. But on a positive turn, they did move my case to their fraud department.
- Called debt cancellation dept and disputed having ever signed up with them. I was told I would receive a copy of the recording they claimed they had with me agreeing to the service.
- I received a letter addressed to me and no copy of the recording. It stated that my wifes birthdate was correctly verified as my own and if I wanted to listen to the tape to call 302-327-2219 between 10am and 7pm.
- Doesn't matter what hour you call the number, you just get a recording telling you to leave a message and a rep will call you back within 2 business days and let you hear the tape. It's been 3 business days, I've left 3 messages and haven't heard from anyone.
- Received fraud affidavid from hsbc fraud department. Signed and returned...who knows what they are going to do about it other than changing the account number and reissuing cards.
I could desparately use some assistance with these con-artists at HSBC.
