Topic Title: HSBC Union Plus, Fraud after card mailed to old address

It is not quite a horror story yet but may end up that way from what I’ve read on this site.
2 weeks ago my Ex-wife (old joint account) got a call from HSBC NV saying we were 4 grand over our credit card limit (a union plus card). We had not used the account in years--had been inactive for almost 10 and expired almost that long.

July this year they sent a credit card to an address I lived at 5 years ago. Somehow it got activated and within 2 weeks had over $15 grand charged against it, $4 grand over the limit. By trying to file all the theft stuff, I have now begun to get phone calls and e-mails wanting the 4 grand paid so the card will be back within its limits. I
have filed a police report and am waiting for it to be mailed to me (this happened in another state). Have gotten a form letter from the FTC to send HSBC NV along with the police report, but do not have their billing inquiries address.

Can you help me out?

I was unable to find an address.

I recommend you call the numbers at the link below and report the information as you told us. Request the proper mailing address or fax number to send the police report. (If possible get two or more copies of the police report. One to send to HSBC/Union Plus and one for your records.)

Be sure to keep records of all correspondence with the company (HSBC and Union Plus) and diaries of telephone conversations. Do everything by writing, e mail, and fax if possible. Do not delete any incoming or sent e mail from your computer that involves correspondence with the above companies, unless you print the complete text of the message, including the date/ time information was received or sent. This establishes an audit trail for your correspondence. Telephone conversations do not protect your rights as a consumer.
