I also checked my credit report and saw HSBC NV was on it. But I NEVER opened an account with them, nor have I heard of them

HSBC NV is the new name of Household Bank. As to tblake saying it is the disgraced lender of Household International that is just your thoughts. Working for the company I would have to disagree. Just like any business outthere they have had problems. I am sure that even Citibank (Citicorp) has had their fair share of problems. Just keep in mind that everything is in the final stages of the transition from Household to HSBC so yeah depending on the phone number you call your info may not be found. As far as saying the customer service rep did not help out by not finding your info after a period of time accounts are not able to be pulled up and the best way to try to get this off your credit report is to file a dispute.

Thanks for your clarification. "Troubled predatory lender" and "disgraced predatory lender" are more than just my thoughts. It is written opinion based on a study of William F. Aldinger and Household International dating back more than 12 years. Just like many of our posters, I have personal experience with the company. When Household International bought Beneficial Finance, some phone numbers did not work, but a predatory lender does not learn how to correct the problem. Instead, they capitalize on the chance to route calls to non-working numbers. As told by an insider (Branch manager) HFC calls were routed to Beneficial if they could stall and make an extra $1000 or more.

Before Aldinger Household International was somewhat reputable. After Aldinger "upselling" became the norm, evictions were out of control, and the company became the nation's leading predatory lender. Granted there is more risk and a valid need exists for sub-prime lending. But the shift to shady credit card processing was driven by the nationwide $484 million settlement, tougher OCC regulations, and much tighter oversight.

Citibank (Citicorp) had more problems from their predatory lending arm (CitiFinancial) than they did elsewhere. But the reputable side of Citi processes payments within 3 to 4 days, always mails a statement, and customer service representatives are efficient. The reputable side of HSBC still rebels at the prospect of recognizing a predatory finance corporation (HSBC Finance Corporation, formerly known as disgraced predatory lender Household International) as a valid part of real banking. Bankers do not want to be associated with payday loans, pawn your title companies, or predatory lending.

"For more information about the Consumer Credit Account, in the United States, call Home Depot Credit Services at 1-866-875-5488, or in Canada, call 1-800-747-3787."

I called the telephone number given for the United States. Customer Services told me Home Depot's consumer credit is serviced by GECC.

Retailers may change service providers when contracts expire. I know that from 1996 through 2003, Home Depot DID NOT use Household Retail Services for my Home Depot.

Some GECC account portfolios were sold to HSBC Retail Services, however at this time, the reports we receive have been limited to motorcycles financed.

Points earned on HSBC's Business Cards Rewards Program may be redeemed with gift cards from various merchants. The redemption matrix lists Home Depot Gift Cards. The fine print reads "HSBC Bank USA, NA is not affiliated with The Home Depot. The Home Depot is a registered trademark of Homer TLC, Inc."

I do not know about Office Depot.

I am glad you were able to contact someone to get help closing our account. Thank you for the telephone number. I hope it helps people reading this thread.
