I too was charged late fees when my payment was not late. I was told to make my payment sooner, but by the time I received my statement, if I mailed my payment the same day it still would not get there in time. HSBC blamed it on the postal service but still don't get my statement to me any sooner. Then they call me and tell me the payment is past due and the statement hasn't even arrived yet.

I would definately never recommend using HSBC, even if the recommendation was to my worst enemy. They are a poor business and the customer service sucks. I have been on hold this time for over ten minutes and this is my third phone call in the past hour. I haven't gotten through yet.

I refer our visitors to Shea v Household. They've been doing this for over ten years and still get away with it. They've made billions perpetrating this scam and only paid $11 million (USD) in Shea v Household. In a conversation with Mr. Shea he stated that Household (later HSBC) ignored him and claimed his position was without merit. The courts disagreed.

The bottom line is simply that every customer who experiences this travesty must file a complaint with everyone possible. See the upper corner of this page for the "Regulators" menu. This cannot be solved with a class action lawsuit. (HSBC was instrumental in pushing the new bankruptcy reform which hurts consumers.) This must be solved by a joint action by attorney's general and other regulators. Let them know what happened to you.
