Topic Title: Harassment - Never Again Shop Best Buy
Received statements with late fees already added. Began getting multiple daily/nightly phone requests for payment a week BEFORE payment due date. Received Collections Dept letter a week AFTER the account balance was paid in full and account closed. We will never go into a Best Buy store again.
Hello!
I also live in the state of Tennessee. We had a mortgage with Beneficial Finance Company. Please do not do business with this company. The company that owns Best-Buys is the same company that owns Beneficial. We refinance our home with Beneficial in the year 2000. We were able to take part in the class-action settlement. The settlement was a joke. You didn't get much money and was still left with the predatory loan. There is a attorney in Nashville, Tennessee suing Household(HSBC) on RICO charges. His name is Mr. Kline Preston. You can read about this article in the Tennessean. The article came out on Oct. 25, 2004. You can go to Tennessean.com, type in the date or Household faces RICO charges. The problem is it is hard to get in touch with Mr. Kline Preston. If you live in the state of Tennessee, please let me know if you were able to get in touch with Mr. Preston.
I like to here more from Tennessean who have had trouble with Household Finance, Beneficial, Rooms To Go, or any other Household(HSBC) owned Companies. If you live in the state of Tenn. and you lost your house because of Household/Beneficial please write. If we can get together and write our Attorney General, Mr. Paul Summers maybe as a group our voices wil be heard. Anyone in Nashville have any suggestions?

We must clarify for our visitors that Best Buy and Rooms To Go are not owned by Household International, now called HSBC Finance Corporation. Their credit cards are financed by Household - HSBC under private label credit card agreements, and Household has private label credit card agreements with over 60 merchants. However, in defense of the poster, we called Best Buy's credit card number (800-365-0292).
They answered as Best Buy. Here is the conversation:
US: I'm sorry, I was trying to reach HSBC Retail Services
THEM: This is HRS
US: I though you just said it was Best Buy.
THEM: Financially we are the same company.
End of conversation --
From a legal standpoint Best Buy Corporate legal staff would shudder to hear what was said. The Securities and Exchange Commission definition of "financially" goes well beyond the current credit card processing arrangement between the two companies. We chalked it up to a naive customer service agent at HSBC. A Household insider explained to us that the phones are answered as "Best Buy" because that was how the contract was written.

We monitor customer trends for possible violations of Regulation Z and other possible illegal actions.
