As an employee for the company, yes, HSBC retail services, I must say: 1) your report is false flustered in cali.... or 2) you misunderstood the store or they lied.
Best Buy can not take anything off your account as far as fees. They process the application and send it to the bank. They charge for purchases and post returns to the account as well. They will not be removing the credit protection fees. The policy is to cancel the credit protection at cardholder request and refund fees if cancelled within 60 days of the account open date. It states on the application if you enroll for it there is a 60 day trial period.
For those who claim forged application do the following;
Send a letter of dispute to HSBC Retail Services, POBox 15521, Wilmington, DE 19850-5521. Include you dispute the fees because your signature is not on the application on that line. Include a copy of your legal government ID, i.e: Driver's license. Between that document as well as your (valid) signature on the application they will be able to determine it is or is not your signature and remove the fees if it is not signed by you. If this is the case, a store associate forged the application. The credit protection is keyed as accepted or declined credit protection at the store. Retail Services does not get the application for 15-30 days from the date the account is opened.
Your account is opened at Best Buy. Your social security # and personal information are already keyed in the computer for your account to be opened. We retain the application on file for record keeping and for as long as required by law. It is transported to the bank from the store you opened the account at. When your accout is opened, which is if you are approved and after you sign the application, you billing date is already selected.
No, Guest, you're wrong. They will be refunding the fees they have charged me for "debt cancellation insurance."
I did not contract for "debt cancellation insurance" nor did I contract for a Household Credit Card they tried to send me. Despite my specificially saying I didn't want either they fraudulently signed me up for both. The fact that they went ahead and signed me up for it does not mean I'm contractually obligated to pay the fees that were charged me.
If you think they can do this, then I would suggest you go back to school and take an introductory law class.
If they don't refund my fees w/i 30 days, I will have the great pleasure of filing a consumer protection lawsuit as well as complaints with the Indiana Department of Insurance and the Indiana Attorney General's Office, Consumer Fraud Division.
Again, I would suggest that introductory law class.

Attorney at Law
I have taken law classes. Thanks for the invitation though. If you finish reading what I previously wrote you apparently missed a couple points. First, I agree that if you did not sign up for the protection it should and will be removed. My previous posting included how to handle the situation if your signature was forged. I also stated that if it was forged, it was done at Best Buy by an employee, not the bank as you have accused. Last, closing your posting with; Attorney at Law, does not impress me nor does it frighten the bank when attorney's identify themself as a lawyer. Get off your high horse.
