Topic Title: Caught in phone charge loop

I had an account with CompUSA. I was never alerted that they had switched financial institutions and raised my interest rates. I paid my usual amount every month, on time like always, and then received a letter stating that my account was past due. With all of their fees and late charges, it ended up being more than my original purchase.

I immediately called and paid the total amount, so I assumed that I had a zero balance... Well, I was in the process of getting a home equity loan at the time and my loan officer called and said that I still had a delinquent account with them. I called to see what the problem was and got transferred from here to there. They said it would be taken care of and that I still had a balance of $15 on my account. FOR WHAT????

Well, I paid over the phone and that added another $15 to my account. Just wanting it to be over with I went ahead and tried to pay over the phone again. I figured I could pay the $30, and that would be it. It wouldn't let me pay over what was on my account, so I could either pay $15 and be charged another $15, or I could send it in by mail.

I was furious at this point because my loan officer called again and said that another late mark had been added to my credit report. I am still in the works of getting my loan and I haven't seen my final statement from HSBC yet. I went ahead and closed my account and I will never do that again.
