Topic Title: Best Buy Messes Up Credit--Then Passes Us to Beneficial

We have been trying unsuccessfully for 2 years to get a double entry of a Best Buy account that was included in a bankruptcy corrected on my husband's credit report. Any idiot could see that it is one and the same--same credit line, same account #, opening date etc. etc., yet the bureau refuses to remove one of the entries.

Now a new development: suddenly it is shown as "Beneficial" and just as suddenly there are a whole bunch of 90 day lates all over the place--ALL of them after the Chapter 13 and also after the Chapter 7 (we later converted) where BB was listed as a discharged creditor.

These entries are tanking my husbands credit score and did not appear UNTIL BB turned it over to Beneficial.

In my opinion, Beneficial is deliberately tanking my husband's score out of spite. We have a lawyer and I am debating whether or not to point this out to him---I'll try to get it corrected first. If not, we will have no option but to name the credit bureau as well as Beneficial as co-defendants in legal action he is taking against 3 predatory lenders.

When is someone going to finally pull the carpet out from under these crooks? May they all rot in *beep*.

I changed my address with HSBC, but they claim I didn't. They changed my address all right--apparently to an address I never lived at. The post office tells me that address doesn't even have a mail receptacle. Meanwhile, they tanked my previously good credit score, and wont listen to reason. They claim all the burden of proof is on me, they don't have any obligation to me as a consumer. This entire time they had my home phone and two cell phone numbers that I gave them in my letter of change of address, but claim not to have been given the change of address. And, by the way, they never bothered to call to let me know there was a problem. I have no way to prove it....I have the letter on my computer, but it isn't notarized to prove I actually mailed it (no normal person does that). They are incompetent, and are making me pay for it through late fees, charging me $30.00 for back statements they should have mailed for free, and a huge interest rate jump since I am now high-risk.

I also have a Best Buy card from 1999 that was supposed to be discharged with my bankruptcy in 2001, but still appears on my credit report. It is a Beneficial account also. It became delinquint because they were charging interest on an interest free charge and I disputed it. Eventually I paid it and closed the account. I didn't receive a statement or bill from them for over a year, then got a collection notice because they had neglected to give me the proper amount for payoff. I had been short $3!!!! By this time, the interest and late charges had escalated to over $300 so I refused to pay. When I did my bankruptcy, they were the first creditor I listed. Every other creditor has removed the info from my report but this company. Please let me know if you have any success in removing the history from your credit report. I have already alerted my attorney, and will try to get it removed myself, but would appreciate any tips or names of contacts to get something done.
