Topic Title: Art Van Customer Burned by HSBC
I purchased a furniture set at Art Van in 1999 under a program with zero interest until the new year. In mid December I sent HRS a check for the full amount. I noticed that the check was not cashed in January.
After inquiring the check finally cleared but the they wanted full interest of approx $600 since it did not clear until the new year. I refused to pay since two weeks should have been enough time to clear the amount I owed. Later a default payment showed up on my credit report.
Your posting shows how vulnerable one can be. Customers need to check the fine print. Before the merger consumers could run from anything that had the Household name attached to it. Now, customers should be very cautious when the HSBC brand name is attached to an offer.
That is the hidden price that John Bond and HSBC will pay in America.

What number or numbers does your caller ID show? Perhaps this information will help others. Thanks.

We recommend that you never call these people from your home phone, and never use your cell phone to call them. Instead, go to Live Phone's website and get a free New York City phone number. Call them using that. It's free right now, although things may change in the future. Calls to toll free numbers should be free. Even if you spend $5 it's better than going through what you describe.

We monitor customer trends for possible violations of Regulation Z and other possible illegal actions.
