Topic Title: Accounts Should Be Closed
I recently received a copy of my credit report and the report shows that I have two credit card accounts open under HSBC. These accounts have not been used since the year 2000, have a zero balance, and should have been closed. I have no idea what retail establishments these accounts were for. How can I close these accounts? I have the account numbers and the credit limit amount, but not the name of the store(s). The only contact info on the credit report is HSBC at P.O. Box 15524, Wilmington, DE 19850. Should I write a letter to this address including the account numbers? Is this address still good? Please advise. Thank you for providing this service.
I finally talked to someone at HSBC who helped me with this same problem.
Fax the HSBC portion of your credit report to 503-686-2869 along with your name and number and a way they can reach you (a phone number) and they will supposedly resolve the issue.
Faxing the information should be safe, as your whole account number is not disclosed on the credit report, and the only other information there should be credit limits and dates of payment/report activity (nothing critical).
We'll see.
Good luck!
From what I can tell all the HSBC accounts are for Store Credit Cards. For example I have an old one that shows HSBC/KS and another one that shows HSBC/MNRDS. I believe the first one is for K's merchandise and the second one is for MeNard's. These showed up on my credit report, and I need to close out the old one.
Thanks for the fax number on how to reach them!
