Call the creditor you opened the account with. Ask for Customer Service mailing address - send certified mail a request to close account - do a google search for a form letter - . May take 30-90 days to reflect on your report. If still showing as open in 90 days, dispute with credit bureau and send copy of letter and receipt where you sent certified mail. should fix it. The good news is if it is not showing as being late, it's not really affecting your credit or debt to income ratio when you apply for credit. hope it helps.

This can be a horror story if you are trying to buy a house and you have a open line of credit for a large amount and still have a zero balance. It could lower your credit score enough to put you at a higher finance rate or even deny you the loan. Close all unessary lines of credit and check you credit report atleats yearly.
