RR in Minnesota reports: “This has happened twice in the last year but I only have the last one documented. I have a Herberger’s card and use it only rarely and only to get extra discounts on purchases and always pay it off when receiving the first statement. On Aug 8 2007 I purchased a total of $194.74 at Herberger’s. I never received a statement until Sept 20 and this statment included $36.32 for “finance charge, late charge, debt cancellation charge and prior cycle finance charges”. I sent a check and letter that day for the total of the purchases I made but not any of the extra charges and explained that I had never recieved a statement prior to that one. They denied my request so the next statement showed $38.25 past due. I took this with my letter into my local Herberger’s and they issued a credit to clear my account but I still think HSBC has a scam going and I have destroyed the card.”

This report came from New York:
“I resigned today as a Senior Account Executive for Household in NY State. As SAE’s we are non-exempt employees, legally entitled to receive overtime pay when we work past 40 hours per week. However, virtually all AE’s in my district have been coerced into working “free” overtime. Pressure originates from the District Sales Manager, who uses e-mails, conference calls, in-branch visits and intimidated Branch Sales Mgrs. to get his message across. I must have worked hundreds of free hours in the 2 1/2 years tenure at this company. They have stolen thousands of dollars of compensation from me.”
Em in Colorado reports: “I willingly took out a personal loan with HSBC in May of 2005. The original amount being $6000.00. The interest rate was high at 22.031%, but at the time I needed the money and had the ability to make the $165.00 payments. For 30 months I have paid $185 (yes $20.00 more than required every month) on this loan and recently paid it off. I was shocked to hear that my payoff amount was actually higher than the original amount! They wanted $6625 to pay off a $6000 loan AFTER making 30 months of on-time payments!

“I also worked for the Beneficial side of HSBC for several years. About a year after working for the company, because of my excellent performance in unknowingly deceiving people, I was asked to start in the management training program, with the hopes of becoming a branch manager in the near future. I jumped through hoops for two years, sacrificing my income because I was so busy being a “team player” with training, coaching, and running other peoples branches that I could not book loans myself.
LJ in Nebraska said: “I was recently sued by HSBC for a “supposedly” co-signed loan. They hired attorneys and took me to court and on September 28, 2007 the county court Judge denied the Summary Judgment filed against me, and ordered that the judgment is against the original lender and owner of the automobile.
