LB in Florida says: “I had a Best Buy credit card. $600 balance. The very first statement arrived AFTER the due date…..I didn’t see it and sent the minimum due…. Second statemment arrives and late charge of $39 is added….I call, explain statement arrived to ME late and LC was removed… After this my payments were made on time, but obviously held by HSBC, creating additional late payments…each time I called and LC were removed - interesting huh? If I was always late , why do they continue to remove them ???

A couple months ago I sent in a cheque in Canadian funds to pay my Herberger’s account. It was returned stating the cheque must be u.s. funds. I received an invoice with a late charge so immediately sent another cheque written on my canadian account but with no indication of funds. I retrieved the second cheque back from HSBC stating it did not have U.S. funds written on the cheque. I received another invoice with another late charge. I am very frustrated, as I was never notified that HSBC did not accept Canadian cheques as Herberger’s had in the past years. I sent the second cheque back again with us funds written on it with a letter of my disapproval and suggestion that the late fees be removed from the statement. I also told HSBC to cancel my credit card.

I am disabled and get paid once a month so i have been late on occasion. This lady asked me “When can you make a payment?” I told her I would contact her that Friday and tell them when I could make the payment, the lady then asked me “How are you going to make your payment?” I told her I would send a check or money order she then asked “was your wife’s account still at our local bank where we send the checks from?”
