RE in North Carolina says: “I’m unable to view my mortgage loan online, I been paying my bill online for most of the time we have had this loan, however they say now that I can’t pay or view my account because I filed bankrupcy in 2000 , but this is 2007. HSBC did this with no notice at all. Looks like they would try to make it easy for their customers to try to pay. I can’t find any U.S. numbers that don’t get re-routed to some other country. I wish I had just let my house go in 2000 instead of dealing with this company!”

CA in Texas says: “I got my first bill from HSBC. We got it on 8/6/2007, mailed payment. 8/7. I didn’t get my bill for September., so I called them on 9/18 and they said they mailed it. Well it seems odd to me that I’m not having any problem with any other bill and have never had this problem. My payment was due 8/11/2007. Well they said they didn’t get it until 8/14 and charged me a late fee or $29.00. Well they also charged me another late for September because they didn’t get a payment. Another fee of $29.00. I am very suspicious?? The first bill supposedly late? Then Sept bill not get in mail? Give me a break. This is a scam to get us to go online and pay automatically and to get our money.”
RW in Illinois says: “Constant phone calls to house..will not leave a message for my wife nor for me concerning reason of call…all is said is they are from HSBC.”
CK in Florida says: “8 months ago my husband was in a severe accident and we got behind on line of credit from HSBC. On 9/10/07 I received a call from Robbie Cloud who told me if I paid them $300.00 right there out of my checking account it would take my account out of collections. I told him I wanted this in writing so then his supervisor, Michael Taylor, got on the phone. Michael Taylor told me they could not fax this but would send me a letter. I gave them my info over the phone. Today, 9/18/07, I received a call from someone else telling me I need to pay them more money. I told her the story and she told me she should sort this out. I told her if this was not correct I would report them to the FTC under the fair debt collection law. I told her I would follow suit. Tactics like this will not scare me and HSBC needs to be shut down.”
An HSBC employee in New York sent this: “I am an employee at the HSBC mortgage center in Depew, NY and I must say this is the most unethically run company I have ever seen. The mortgage center is run like a collection call center. The layers of management at the supervisor level are unbelievable. Rate and terms of home equities are not properly disclosed up front to the customers. Employees are rated monthly on how many loans they process and close - they must maintain a certain amount in order to keep their jobs. To that extent, proper customer care cannot be given, and many good customer applications are declined within a 10 day period simply because the employee must look good each month. Many, many gray areas at this company under the current management. I have never seen such “favoritism” played out in a company. You have husbands and wives both working under the same managers and continuously promoted. You have senior managers and groups of staff fraternizing together outside of work regularly. These chosen few are the ones who are promised and receive the promotions. And of course within this group are the married managers who pick out the “new recruits” to sleep with. This place needs to be audited by an outside source immediately! Most of us keep our mouths shut for fear of losing our jobs but things have truly gotten out of control here.”
