JD in Pennsylvania said: “I had a $6500 limit on a Direct Rewards Mastercard. Had the card for about 3 years. Never late on a payment. I took advantage of a 2.9% interest rate on cash advance of $2000 in August 08 and had an additional $500-$600 of charges . I used the card often $200-$300 charges per month. I would typically make large monthly payments $300-$500 and I would often make multiple payments. I never went over 50% credit used. I lost my job in Dec 08 so I started making much smaller monthly payments $75-$100. Anyway, in Mar 09 HSBC reduced my credit limit to $50 over my outstanding balance which was about $2900. They must be using some type of software that flags you in some way. I guess a perfect payment history means nothing.”

RR in Oregon said: “Arrow Financial sent a collection letter addressed to me for a credit card debt belonging to the company I use to work for. This company went out of business. I sent a letter back to them with this information and the bank and owner names and numbers. Arrow closed this debt account but did not contact me or the credit agencies that they had sent the debt information to.
TD in Ohio said: “We had an automobile loan with HSBC. We had damage done to our vehicle. The insurance company sent us a check in our name and HSBC. My husband fixed the car. We sent the check to HSBC and they applied it to our loan. Then HSBC said we didn’t have a payment due until april 15 2009.
CL in Texas said: “I just tried to order something online with my HSBC account and it was declined due to being over limit. I was shocked as I had recently made a $400 payment to cover this and several other things that I need to buy. So I logged onto my account and found that they had reduced my credit limit by the $400 I had just paid! So now I have no way to pay for these items, including one that is scheduled to hit it in the next couple of days.
BM in Pennsylvania said: “I just got the worst phone call from HSBC - claimed they’ve been emailing me bills and I’ve ignored them. I didnt even know I had a balance. Funny thing is that as soon as I went to the site to pay it immediately (after they told me I couldn’t - that I had to WAIT for the next bill), the first thing they forced me to do was confirm I wanted electronic delivery! To set up the bloody account to send the bills via email! NO PAPER BILLS NO ELECTRONIC BILLS NOTHING! So they’ve tacked on late fees and screwed with my credit report - I will never deal with them again! The confirmation emails got through ok so I know the spam filter didnt stop them! Just the ignorant company lying to me.”
