NR in Oregon said: “I would like to know how to have HSBC Card Services investigated. I settled a $300.00 dollar credit card with them in 2/2006 for $100.00. I didn’t even apply for the card, but agreed to settle the account to get off my credit. I received a letter from a law firm in early 2007 saying that i owe HSBC $770 plus other fines that were attached. I ended up paying HSBC Card Service $2500 on a card that I didnt apply for and to top it off I agreed to settle the account and did. I have heard several complaints about this company doing settlements, then turning around and have you garnished. I would like to know what legal actions I can take against this company. For the last few months I was living off nothing because of this fraud account and there un-fair business practice. I would like to sue them but I don’t have the funds at this time. Are there any class action suits on file at this time?”

PM in Massachusetts said: “I had fallen behind on my payments and called to set up a payment arrangement. I did and they told me to pay $70. a month and that would preserve my credit rating. I made the 1st payment and two days later, I got a letter from an attorney stating that they didn’t take partial payments and they wanted the whole balance. HSBC had written off my account, ruined my credit and was suing me for the balance. I had to hire an attorney to get this straightened out but my credit is ruined for 7 years because they didn’t stick to the arrangement. I wil never use HSBC again and will tell everyone I know.”
CK in Florida says: “8 months ago my husband was in a severe accident and we got behind on line of credit from HSBC. On 9/10/07 I received a call from Robbie Cloud who told me if I paid them $300.00 right there out of my checking account it would take my account out of collections. I told him I wanted this in writing so then his supervisor, Michael Taylor, got on the phone. Michael Taylor told me they could not fax this but would send me a letter. I gave them my info over the phone. Today, 9/18/07, I received a call from someone else telling me I need to pay them more money. I told her the story and she told me she should sort this out. I told her if this was not correct I would report them to the FTC under the fair debt collection law. I told her I would follow suit. Tactics like this will not scare me and HSBC needs to be shut down.”
HH in Michigan says: “I had a credit card from hsbc. The limit was $300. I was unemployed over the summer because I teach. Already miffed by the high interest rate , My bill kept rising, even though I had not used the card in a year. I made a settlement to pay off the nearly $1000, in 3 payments of $333 . I paid the first two on time the last on due July 22 , I sent $75 and a note explaining that I was unemployed and would send it off asap. They in turn sent it to collections and they kept my money and want $1000 again.”
