PM in Florida said: “I have a HSBC Best Buy Card and signed up for electronic statements which I still have to receive. Back in November when i realized they did send my nov statement i went on the web site and my payment was a day late. They would not waive the late fee and i complained but till this day they still say they are sending me statements which i have not received. I get my payment confirmation. I feel it is just a scam so people forget about their bill and have a late fee. Now I paid off a 90 day same as cash plan on the same card and they are charging me a interest because they applied the pay to the late fee.”

NG in Texas said: “I received the last statement for my “BEST BUY” account on 12-10-2007 and mailed the total amount due on 12-18-07 since this was my last ‘interest free’ month. This check did not clear my account until 1-2-08 so I attempted to call HSBC to find out what was going on. I was shocked when the automated system would hang up on me only after making me enter my account number and several other numeric prompts. After several attempts I finally gave up and registered for their website so that I could check the status of the account. I was shocked to find that they posted the payment on 12-29-07 when the due date was 12-28-07 and they assessed a $29.00 late fee. It’s ironic that the other two checks I mailed that same day cleared my account on 12-24-07.
The Lawyers and Settlements website has a great article worth reading if you plan on using your Best Buy card for any interest free promotion this holiday season. Here is an excerpt:
The following complaints about HSBC, received from individuals around the country, should be considered as allegations only. We make no effort to investigate the validity of complaints submitted by customers and non-customers. Instead we monitor complaints such as these for trends that can be verified, just as we did before Household International was charged with predatory lending. Similar complaints from different states, where the people are unknown to each other, often lead to discovery of trends.
RC in Texas says: “I have only had an account with HSBC for 5 months. They have charged us late fees and over the limit fees that were not accurate. They don’t post their billing correctly. I pay my account online with my bank and they are saying that the bank is incorrect, when in fact it is HSBC that is incorrect. I have proof and HSBC says that they can only give me 4 credits a year no matter whose FAULT it is. So I get only get 4 credits out of the five they owe me plus they have to cechk to see if I still get me 0% interest for 9 months. The no-interest plan was supposely “LATE” but really not. They are a nightmare to speak too also, they act like they mean customer service or even supervisors can’t adjust anything. I spoke with a supervisor November 18 and he was to go over my account and call me back but I have yet to receive a call from him – “KING” in Maryland. I left him several messages. SO needless to say “DONT EVER DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY” for your sanity!!”
