RG in Arkansas sent this short but very telling complaint. If it pertains to you please use caution. RG said “HSBC – Account Secure Plus refuses to pay claim on completely disabled man because he was self employed.”

MM in North Carolina said: “Sometime during 1999 and 2000, I applied for Seamans furniture credit. Upon approval, Seamans also offered the option for credit protection. I accepted both the credit and the option for payment protection on the account. The protection plan option was initialed via Seamans internet website and subsequent paperwork received.
BA in Minnesota said: “We canceled the one dollar charge and now it is 16.92. We do not want insurance (Debt cancellation) and called, which took a hour as the phone line will not give time to even give account #. This the second time we have tried to have it cancelled.
Clark in California said: “I’ve been an HSBC cardholder for 3 years now and have told them to remove the account secure coverage 2 separate times. They failed to remove it either time! I like HSBC but the coverage people are a bit slow!”
RT in Arizona said: “I first obtained my “Orchard Bank” credit card in 2002 with a $3000 limit.. In 2003 I was called by Account Secure Plus, representing Orchard Bank and was offerd this credit card protection if I become permanently disabled. They harge $22.00 per month for this service and after a long time of declining, I finally agreed to it, by phone.
