AO in California said: “I am another victim of H&R Block and HSBC. I submitted my income tax on January 16, 2009. I never asked for an advance or a loan or a rapid refund. I clearly stated to H&R Block that I had no problem waiting for my refund been deposited directly into my bank account.
When I checked the IRS web site “Where is my refund?” There was a message that my refund was going to be deposited into my bank account on January 30th, but, to wait till the 4th of February before asking my financial institution in case my money was not on my account by that date.
On the 5th of February after already contacted my bank I called IRS, to let them know my money was not been deposited yet. IRS notified me that YES, that a deposit had been made on the 30th of January on my checking account. To make the story short they end up telling me that it went to HSBC. I told then that HSBC was not my bank, so I called H&R and they said my money was going put on hold for 48 hrs.
I got very upset because I never asked for a loan or X. Up to this day I have not receive my refund HSBC “told me” my money was returned to the IRS because there was a “problem” with my application. And H&R Block said they’re very sorry about all this. IRS place a trace on my refund and they said, it will take from 6 to 8 weeks to find out what happened with the deposit and to issue me a paper check.
NOW H&R called me and said PLEASE, PLEASE when you receive your money can you stop at our office and pay us? This is BS. I think this a very convenient way of earning interest on a short period with someone elses money. I am filing a complaint with the IG. I am also a US ARMY Soldier but who cares. Right?
Editor’s Note: I’ve said it for years, and I will say it again this year - H&R Block tax service and their questionable relationship with HSBC has deteriorated every year. Reading this Soldier’s report makes it clear that H&R Block was used for income tax preparation ONLY. HSBC should NOT even be involved.
Two years ago H&R Block couldn’t even do their own corporate taxes correctly. Perhaps it is time to find a different tax preparer, staying clear of H&R Block until the company makes changes to become responsible again.
