JM in Virginia said: “In 2005 I bought a computer from best buy using and HSBC account, after making about half of my payments on time I was deployed with the Marine Corps and I fell behind on my payments. When I returned 6 months later I found that my account was in collections. As soon as I received this information I called the bank and paid the balance due and everything was fine, except for a mark on my credit for being late, which is to be expected because I was late.
The real issue doesn’t come into play until May of 2008. Even though I closed the account in 2005 by paying the amount owed in full they decided to show the account as paid and in good standing/closed from Nov. 2005 when I paid it off, to May 2008.
In May of 2008 HSBC reported the account as open and charged off even though it had been closed for several years. This in turn ruined my credit and when I tried to call them to discuss it they either didn’t know what I was talking about, transferred me to 30 different people, put me on hold for hours, or just plain hung up altogether.
At this point I don’t know what to do to get in contact with the right person to clear up this mistake. If anyone is reading this that knows who I should talk to, or has some contact info that would aid in this situation, it would be greatly appreciated.”
