In December we attempted to make a payment (of half the balance of the card) because the 6 month grace period (which was advertised as a 12 month period) was up. Because the bill was due that day, we made a rush payment ($15 fee included) on the HRS supported website. After a few weeks of the check STILL not clearing the bank, we investigated and found that according to HSBC our check had been returned and we were charged a $25 fee.
Upon emailing them asking why it was returned, and if any fees could be removed, they told us the account number had been rejected and that there was nothing we could do about the fees. Frustrated, we went to David’s Bridal with the intention of paying off the card in full, only to be informed that they do not accept payments, which was the first time we had been informed of this. So my fiance called the customer service number on his credit card. After being transfered numerous times to various people with broken english, he informed them that he wished to make a telephone payment.
Apparently, according to the person he was speaking to, because our check was returned, HSBC will not accept any checks from us for 30 days. So now we will have to pay the $15 rush payment fee, a late payment charge, and $25 returned check fee, interest for December AND January, interest on the $15 rush fee payment, and a late payment fee for January because they WONT LET US MAKE A PAYMENT for 30 days. We are a young couple and don’t have time or money to waste on this the month before our wedding. We have tried numerous time to give these people the money we owe them and be done with it, to no avail. I am at a loss of what to do.”
