W in Oregon said: “I recently tried to dispute a charge with a merchant through my credit card company HSBC. A hotel had charged me for 2 nights when I only stayed one night. I had never signed anything for two nights and the reservation was only for one night. I contacted the hotel and they told me someone in accounting would check on it and call me but no one ever did. HSBC Credit card was unwilling to pursue it for me and threw up impossible roadblocks.
They did not contact the merchant and told me that unless I had a receipt for one night stay they would not pursue the dispute. I know I never signed anything for the amount I was being charged. I asked to speak to a supervisor when I called HSBC and she told me the hotel could charge me for any number of nights and they didn’t even need a receipt with my signature on it to do it. Clearly HSBC does not want to deal with disputed transactions.
I was able to get some resolution by contacting the BBB in Illinois, as that is where HSBC’s head office is. It’s difficult to find the head company as they have many company names as DBA in all parts of the country. For example HSBC credit card services is in Salinas CA. The payments are sent to Carol Stream Illinois and nowhere on the statement does it say the actual name of the company. Their actual name is HSBC Finance Corp. 961 Weigel Ave. Elmhurst, IL, 60126. Contact the BBB in Elmurst IL. This can be done online.”
