DV in Ohio said: “My daughter bought a laptop from Best Buy with the 2 year no finance charge and got a credit card but she did not sign up for any insurance. When the card came a month later and she called to activate it she repeatedly said no to any other offers and now her first bill comes and there is a $10.21 charge for debt cancellation-OH.”
Editor’s Note: HSBC (HSBC Finance aka HSBC Consumer Credit) has the contract with Best Buy Stores to operate their credit card. HSBC Finance was once known as predatory lender Household International. My son shops at Best Buy, as do many people. However, I caution my son to use his own credit card or to pay cash. He knows all about HSBC and their shady ways. Parents should tell their children, protect them from predatory lending, and caution them that all credit cards and credit card processors are not created equal. In the case above somebody at HSBC Finance got a pay-for-performance bonus for adding insurance even though they know what they did was wrong.
