HSBC says cannot take late fee out of overpayment

I then scheduled a payment for 39.00 to be processed on 5/1 to avoid 39.00 late fee. On 5/5 I was charged a 39.00 late fee. When I called I was told I should have paid 79.00? When I asked why, they said I had a late fee of 39.00? Do the math! If your bill is 39.00 and you pay 300.00 why is there a late fee. Their explanation was they can not take the late fee out of the 300.00…huh! So they rolled it to the next month. However, when scheduling the next payment in advance the screen gave me the choice of minimum payment of 39.00 or full payoff, other, etc. So I selected 39.00 which they offered. But now I am receiving another 39.00 late fee. When I spoke to customer service supervisor and asked if they would do the math with me, they got pissed and hung up! Can you say ripoff-unethical, shisters!”
