HSBC claims to change due date but never does
SP in California said: “After receiving a couple late fee charges for paying my bill on the first day of each month (my due date is the 31st) I wrote HSBC in January requesting that my payment due date be moved from the 31st to the 3rd or 4th of the month. My reason is that I am a state employee and we get paid only once per month - on the 1st day of the month.
I received a letter from HSBC Customer Service, on February 18, 2008 stating that “Per your request, the due date on your account has been changed.” However, my due date is still the 31st and I continue to get late fees.
It is clear that HSBC has no intention to live up to their agreement to change the due date by just a few days to accommodate my pay date. What crooks they are in Wilmington, Delaware. They also lie as well!”
Editor’s Note: As a state employee you should contact your attorney general. Clearly HSBC used the US Mail to send you a modification agreement that they do not intend to uphold. Did HSBC profit from it? Make a case for mail fraud. If nothing else you can make it uncomfortable for HSBC, possibly get your fees refunded, and call attention to HSBC in the attorney general’s office. California already has a file.
