Vermont customer fine line between illegal and immoral at HSBC
GC in Vermont said: “HSBC is on my credit report. I cannot even remember the Merchant my ex-husband had used. In a divorce situation, creditors don’t care who is responsible according to the courts; as we all know, both parties in a joint enrollment situation are responsible as far as the merchants are concerned. I made a concerted effort to speak with reps of hsbc almost weekly a few years ago where it concerned that old joint account, continually giving them the ex’s contact info, making payments to keep the account current, etc.
These situations are bad enough when your dealing with reputable firms, this situation, with this creditor, was horrific. I finally ended up paying the total due myself to save my credit. I spoke with a customer service rep who assured me my efforts were not in vain and MY credit would not suffer. Well, it has. They are listed on my report as having had to make ‘legal settlement for less than the actual amount owed’ which is a crock when you consider the actual balance was about a third of the total due by the time they finished tacking on dues and fees.
It doesn’t pay to be attentive, to try to be ‘responsible’, and a consciencious borrower, with a company that piles on unreasonable charges, has no concept of customer service, and consistently walks the fine line of illegal vs immoral.”
