HSBC Horror Stories

KS sent this report: “I worked for HFC/Beneficial for 3 years. We all know the management are goofs, and the President (Detelich) is the biggest goof of all. I read about the customer relations issue, and must say that what was reported is not all-truthful. The branch people are not allowed to handle customer service, rather they are there to sell! A customer service number for Rancho Cucamonga is given to anyone seeking Customer service issues. If it went to India or Iowa, I had no clue, and didn’t care as it cut into making my 100 sales calls each day. I have hundreds of horror stories, as each day was one.

I worked for managers who played the game cut throat (draw 1st blood) where the one who gets to talk to the live body steals the business away from the caller who called them in the first place. I worked with crooks that would ruin your career just to better their paycheck. I was passed over for promotion 6 times because management knew I wouldn’t play their little games.

I had 7 Managers in a 2-year period of time. Caught 3 stealing from the company and found out later they got promoted for their actions. I was also never told when I started that they had given up personal finance to rely on 1st mortgages only. They didn’t pay on 2nds and lines of credit. Go for the first mortgage and tell the customer how great 12% interest is. Better yet, how about being told to make calls to people whose mortgage was HSBC’s or some other recently bought account, where we were told to identify ourselves as HSBC or the other lender just to get their business.

Open lies, 1/2 truths and corruption runs the company. I know of 1 employee who got into a car wreck with an uninsured motorist. She called the guy, took an application and tried to get him a loan to pay for the damages. I reported her to management, as this is an illegal act. She quit, only to turn up in a higher position at a different office. HR didn’t care that she broke the law, rather they said her actions were just the type a great producer should use thinking outside of the box and that we should all think of new ways to get business. I can’t wait for them to be sold and put out of business.”
