RH in Massachusetts said: “I am a resident and business owner in Massachusetts. During the holiday season I went to a sale at Best Buy and was given a line of credit with them, through a company known as HSBC. I was told that I wouldn’t have to worry about payments for 6 months. I received my card in the mail, where my name was misspelled, and they told me that I would have to mail them in a copy of my birth certificate to fix it. After that I heard nothing from the company- no bills, no statements, nothing until phone calls which began this past week informing me that I was overdue. I called back to address the issue, and that is where my real problems began.
I asked them if I had been reported to a credit agency, and they informed me that if I didn’t pay in the next few days I would be reported. I asked if I could pay over the phone, and was told I could but would be charged $15 to do it. I then asked if I could have an extension of a few days, and they told me that if I cared about my credit I would pay the $15, otherwise I would get reported to the various credit agencies. This is just plain wrong. Being threatened by a credit card company because they made multiple mistakes and were unwilling to deal with them. To make matters worse, its not like this is an issue of hundreds of dollars - my minimum payment is literally $10. I am being threatened to have my credit ruined by this company over $10, which I was calling in an attempt to pay.”
